Apprentice - System and Network Administration Technician

The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), based in Grenoble, France, is a leading research facility for fundamental research using neutrons, hosting over 2000 scientists per year who come to carry out experiments. Are you ready to take on an exciting challenge in an international organisation?

Come and join the (10-person) Infrastructure group within the ILL’s IT Service, which is responsible for all of ILL’s IT infrastructure.

Your tasks As a dynamic member of the team, you’ll help with an ambitious project to overhaul the Institute’s network infrastructure, working in a technologically diverse environment in a setting that is conducive to learning. You will therefore:

  • Participate in the team’s day-to-day activities: work on the Institute’s systems and networks, perform diagnostic analysis and modifications to infrastructures, etc.
  • Join the project team dedicated to the overhaul of the network infrastructure: modification of the architecture, replacement of materials, 802.1X security authentication protocol.
  • Assist in defining methods to adapt the 802.1x security authentication protocol
  • Put in place systems and equipment
  • Support users with testing and validation.

Your profile

  • You are studying for a Level 5/6 qualification (undergraduate degree, HND, NVQ or equivalent) specialising in computer science, IT systems, networks, telecommunications, IT security or equivalent.
  • You have a strong service-oriented attitude and are an active listener.
  • You have a curious mind and are able to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Cisco IOS/NX-OS networking software would be an advantage.
  • You have a strong interest in open-source software.
  • Knowledge of English is essential (e.g. understanding technical documentation).
